Is Australia still a safe place for Indian Students?

While I was in university I was driving cab to support myself, one night I picked 4 passengers, 2 men and 2 women between age 65-75, so gentleman on front seat asked from where I am and I replied "India", his response "Oh! Land of Mahatma, great" and I smiled, now you can guess from this one sentence what he thinks of India.

Sachin Tendulkar: If we Indians are respected in Australia then it was because of this man, India and Australia match and Australians used to come and watch just him.

Indian food and Indian movies: They are crazy for chicken tikka, chicken masala. The grocery shop use to sell DVD's of Amitabh Bachan for 20 Dollar to them (and to Indians only for 5 dollar)

My cab company owner used to say that he used to think people from Greece are hard working but after seeing Indians he has changed his thinking.
Racial attack lot of Indians have made this point especially with 24/7 news channel but look at my surname I been Indian have faced more discrimination in India, the first question we ask here is are you brahmin or punjabi? then second question is are you from Punjab/ U.P and like that.
There was incident while I was living in Australia (Melbourne), it was reported that an attempt has been made on Indian guy and he has been tried to be burnt alive and truth can be read here Burned Indian 'faked attack to claim insurance'.
I have lived in Australia, Melbourne to be specific and that also for 10-11 years and whether it was education, job, getting apartment on rent all the process and issue was same as for my Australian or Chinese friends were same (yes I have paid more for education as I was on student visa).
The main thing is you are in other country and you need to respect there law as you would expect from foreigners while they are visiting India. There may be some incidences but since I have not faced any on my face so I cannot speak for them but one or two incidences does not make entire country racist this way we Indians would be the leader, because here groom wants a bride who should be very fair in color though he himself may be ...rest I leave it for you to judge.
